Fire damages wheat crop on 21 acres

Bathinda: Wheat crop over 22 acres of land of two farmers was damaged completely in a fire at Chuge Khurd village in the district on Wednesday afternoon.
Short circuit in a low-lying wire supplying electricity to the area led to the fire which engulfed the crop in no time, claim villagers.
Gurjant Singh and Harjodh Singh, owners of the fields, claimed that the fire brigades reached the fields more than an hour after the fire broke out. By that time, villagers had already doused the fire.
Tehsildar Lakhwinder Singh Gill said a report was being prepared which would be submitted to the government for compensation. TNS
