Family of MLA Ranjit Singh Dhillon, SAD candidate from the Ludhiana-East constituency, virtually controls his entire election campaign. His wife, three children, two brothers and their children have formed separate groups and divided areas in the constituency for an effective campaigning.
Dhillon had won the last election with a margin of more than 4,500 votes against Gurmel Singh Pehalwan of the Congress.
Dhillon has been assisted by his wife Ninderjit Kaur, who is also a councillor, his college-going son Jaskaran Singh, his two daughters Jasleen Kaur and Kiranpreet Kaur, his NRI brother Palwinder Singh and two more brothers and their families.
The MLA’s NRI brother have especially come from the US to contribute to his campaigning. “In the last elections too, I had remained in the city for some weeks to campaign for my brother. This time, too, I am enthusiastically campaigning to ensure Ranjit’s victory. Even my children have joined the campaigning,” he said.
The MLA’s wife Ninderjit Kaur said all members of the family were so busy these days that they hardly get a chance to gather at one platform. “We have formed groups that are led by me, my daughters, my son and my relatives. We are separately holding campaigns for Ranjit in the constituency,” she added.
His daughters said they, along with their mother, visited door to door to meet the residents of the constituency. “We feel privileged that we get a chance to campaign for our father. We are making every effort to connect to the people of the halqa,” they added.
The MLA said with the participation of the members of his family, his daily campaigning had become easy. “After we have left for campaigning early morning, we hardly get any chance to meet in daytime. We usually meet at night and discuss the entire day’s experience and the coming programmes,” he added.
