How about a power-packed egg drink that beats the heat and also gives essential proteins? Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has developed egg-based drinks for summers.
Eggs by themselves are a proper diet and some of the many health benefits of eggs include their ability to balance nutrient intake in the body, lower “bad” cholesterol levels, increasing cognitive function, protecting the heart, preventing eye disease, detoxifying the body, preventing certain cancers and guaranteeing proper growth and development. So while drinking a glass of egg-based drink, one is not just quenching the thirst on a sunny afternoon but consuming a drink with numerous health benefits.
While most of the normal drink powders available in the market have artificial flavours, the egg-based slurry developed by the GADVASU contains 70 per cent egg content.
“It is not just a refreshing drink but it also boosts your energy level. We have developed egg slurry and one just needs to add a teaspoon to milk or water, churn it in a mixer and the refreshing and soothing egg-based drink is ready,” said Dr Manish Chatli, Head of the Department of Livestock Products Technology at the GADVASU.
If you are thinking about the odour, then forget about it. The drink has no egg smell and additionally there are a variety of flavours available.
“It is just like any other drink and the only difference is that it is egg based. The slurry has 70 per cent of egg and comes in different flavours. One can choose from orange, mango, strawberry and khas khas,” adds Dr Chatli.
“We are also developing a powder where one just has to add water and the drink is ready. Since the drink is egg based, it has all nutrients and high on protein and also quenches the thirst during summers,” adds Dr Chatli.
Nutritional value of eggs
Eggs are a powerhouse of nutrients inside their tiny package. They contain significant levels of vitamin A, vitamin B-complex, vitamin D, E, and K, as well as phosphorous, selenium, calcium, and zinc.
