With his tenure as PGI Director coming to an end tomorrow, Dr Yogesh Chawla has decided to continue as the Head of the Department of Hepatology till his retirement.
There are a few months to go before Dr Chawla attains the retirement age of 65 years. According to the modified recruitment rules, Dr Chawla has been allowed to continue as a faculty member till the age of 65 years. The governing body of the PGI had approved the modification during its 121st meeting chaired by its president, Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, earlier last month.
Dr Chawla was not given an extension and the Union Health Minister had set up a committee for the selection of a new PGI chief. With the decision regarding the new incumbent for the post of PGI Director still pending, the institute Dean is all set to take charge as the officiating chief tomorrow.
According to sources, Dr Subhash Verma, Dean, PGI, will hold the charge of officiating Director of the PGI till the time a new Director is named. “As per the norms, the senior-most faculty member of the institute is given the officiating charge in case a new chief is yet to be finalised,” said a PGI official.
