In response to questions by Uttarakhand Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Singh Mahra, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said the Railways had started expanding the Dehradun railway station. Plying of an 18-coaches train from and to Dehradun would begin after the expansion work gets completed.

He said the process to remove staff quarters and other railway establishments at and near the station had begun. Shunting, washing and stabilising facilities were being expanded at the railway station.

To another question by the Congress MP, Prabhu said the construction work on the Ramnagar-—Mohan—Marchula—Chaukhutia— Bhikiasain railway track, the cost of which was estimated at Rs 1,379 crore, had been suspended as the Railway Ministry had limited financial sources due to the whopping dues of ongoing projects and non-viability of the project. “The survey work of the rail line was completed in 2011-12,” Prabhu added.
