Taking serious note of the damage to stamp papers worth Rs 2.5 crore by termites, Jhajjar Deputy Commission (DC) Anshaj Singh has sought a detailed report from District Treasury Officer (DTO) Rajbir Malik about the quantum of loss and the reasons responsible for that.

Following the DC’s directives, officials at the local treasury office too have started checking and verifying stock of stamp papers and other valuable items kept in the strong room of the office located at the mini secretariat.

The damage came to the fore three days ago when Malik, who had assumed office 20 days ago, opened the strong room to count the stamp papers meant for registration of property deals. He was astonished to see the stamp papers, each worth Rs 5,000, eaten up by termites.

“The DC has sought a detailed report about the damage caused by termites. We are counting the damaged stamp papers and other items to prepare a report to estimate the quantum of loss,” said Malik, adding that the report would be sent to the DC soon.

Meanwhile, DC Anshaj Singh said, “The issue came to my notice when I inspected the strong room several days ago. I had then asked the officer concerned to submit a report about it, but it is yet to be received.”

He maintained that the treasury officer had now again been asked to submit a detailed report about the loss soon so that it could be sent to the state government for further action.
