Day 2: Political activities dominate Chhapar Mela

A large number of devotees thronged Guga Mari Temple at Chhapar village near here for the second day today.
Though a majority of leaders of various political parties had announced that senior leaders of their respective outfits would be addressing conferences today, a small numbers of activists reached pandals meant for the purpose. However, local leaders were seen posing for photographs on their respective stages to get media coverage.
Leaders of the Dakha assembly constituency were seen giving final touches to the venues of their respective conferences which were scheduled for tomorrow. Some political leaders owing allegiance to the Congress, SAD and Left Front Parties addressed meetings during the day.
Dakha legislator Manpreet Ayali, Harvir Ayali, Darshan Singh Shivalik, Jagdish Singh Garcha (SAD), Jasbir Singh Khangura, Ranjit Singh Mangat and former MLA Malkit Singh Dakha (Congress) Baldev Latala, Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon and Kartar Singh Buani (Left Front) addressed the meetings of activists of their respective outfits.
Meanwhile, vendors at the mela were disappointed on the second day of the event today as majority of devotees partake of langar organised by social organisations. Owners of sweetmeat and fast food stalls were worst hit. Decrease in number of women and children among devotees were cited as another factor behind the tendency.
