City’s main entry points in for makeover

To give a smart look to the industrial city, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation has decided to beautify the main entry points and has designed special structures for the purpose. The authorities have finalised four designs made by an architect and their construction at the main chowks will begin soon.

The beautification plan was discussed by Municipal Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori and Mayor Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria. The Mayor gave his consent to the project.

According to a press note issued today, the chowks, which have been taken up under the project, include Jalandhar Bypass Chowk, Sherpur Chowk, Gill Chowk and Samrala Chowk. The horticulture wing will plant saplings at these chowks during the monsoon season. The MC is likely to spend Rs 12.13 crore on the project.

Meanwhile, officials have already started beautification of the roads leading to these chowks. Today, beautification work on Chandigarh Road, old GT Road, Malhar Road and Hambran Road was started by the officials of the respective zones.

The RCC grills will be installed on the road divider from Ambedkar Chowk to Buddha Nullah which leads to Jalandhar Bypass Chowk. These grills will also be installed on the roads leading to Sherpur Chowk, Gill Chowk and Samrala Chowk. Saplings will be planted on the dividers of Chandigarh Road, Ferozepur Road, from Samrala Chowk to Cheema Chowk, Jalandhar Bypass to Buddha Nullah, Jagraon Bridge to Sherpur Chowk, Vishwakarma Chowk to GNE College, Dandi Swami Road to Hambran Road and from Suffian Chowk to Oswal Hospital.

Thori said: “The combination of four designs will be used at the chowks and an extensive plantation drive will be held there. A smart city should have smart entry points. Commuters will get a good impression of the city.”

They have started beautification of the approach roads. The central verges are being painted and saplings planted. Workers are installing cat eyes on the roads and doing road markings in thermoplastic paint.
