Bharti Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises set up in 2000 with the vision of helping the underprivileged children and young people, completed 10 years of its flagship – the Satya Bharti School Programme.
Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Co-Chairman, Bharti Foundation, while sharing the journey here today, said: “The Satya Bharti Schools have not just excelled in shaping young minds and nurturing their dreams and aspirations irrespective of their background over the last 10 years, but have turned out to be the flag-bearers of quality education in the regions, where they are present. It is indeed gratifying to see the impact of the programme in the villages of Punjab - the state where we set up our first few schools.”
“On completion of 10 years of the Satya Bharti School Program, I would like to thank all state governments, education departments, community members and every team member of Bharti Foundation, who have worked together to make it an exemplary initiative in the area of education for the underprivileged,” he said.
Currently, 254 Satya Bharti Schools, including five senior secondary schools and 249 primary/elementary schools provide free quality education to underprivileged children, maintaining a special focus on the girl child, with 49 per cent students being girls and 75 per cent students belonging to marginalised sections of the community.
The Satya Bharti School Programme is its flagship initiative and was set up in 2006 to provide quality education at primary, elementary and senior secondary-level. The learning accrued through this programme is being transferred to government schools through two other education initiatives – the Satya Bharti Quality Support Programme and the Satya Bharti Learning Centre Programme. In recent years, the foundation has also initiated Satya Bharti Abhiyan, to improve sanitation facilities in rural Ludhiana and Nyaya Bharti to provide legal and financial assistance to deserving underprivileged under trials languishing in jails across the country for minor offences.
