Chandigarh, April 27
The UT police today claimed that Congress leader BB Behl flew abroad before a case was registered against him following his ex-wife’s complaint that she was allegedly assaulted by Behl and his wife at his hotel in Sector 26.
Behl and his wife Nirmal Behl were booked for assaulting Raj Kumari Behl yesterday. Interestingly, Behl left the city soon after the incident though he was reportedly scheduled to go out of the country.
Inspector Chiranji Lal, SHO, Sector 26 police station, said Behl left the city before the case was registered against him. “The case was registered late at night while Behl left earlier. Moreover, his visit abroad will not hamper our investigation as we had recorded his statement at the spot itself,” the SHO added.
Meanwhile, police teams today went to the hotel to get footages of CCTV cameras installed there but these were found non-functional.
Police officials said as a part of the investigation, they were also going to establish through mobile tower locations whether certain persons were present at the spot at the time of the incident. The police are also going to probe the role of other people, including former Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh whose name was mentioned in the complaint along with another former woman mayor.
Pali also visited the Sector 26 police station today and met the SHO regarding yesterday’s incident. He was present at the spot when the incident took place.
Pali claimed that the former woman mayor named in the complaint was not even present at the spot. He said being a close family friend, Behl had called him to the hotel to pacify his ex-wife and resolve the issue that they had met to discuss. “Nobody assaulted the complainant and the allegations levelled by the woman are false,” he claimed.
