Beginning today, Shatabdi to have additional AC chair car

To enhance the passenger carrying capacity of the Shatabdi 12046, which plys from Chandigarh to New Delhi in the afternoon, the Northern Railway has decided to add one air-condition chair car to it from Tuesday. As per the schedule, train number 12045 and 12046, the New Delhi-Chandigarh –New Delhi Shatabdi express train, will be augmented by one additional AC chair car from December 1, 2015, to January 15, 2016, when departing from New Delhi and Chandigarh.

Neeraj Sharma, Northern Railway CPRO, New Delhi, said the decision of the additional coach in Shatabdi was taken because during the foggy days, the burden of passengers shifted to express trains and a large number of trains were cancelled. The additional augmentation arrangement has been made this time in the Shatabdi, as it used to have long waiting list of passengers.

To reduce the long waiting list of passengers, the Ambala division today decided to extend the Chandigarh-Gorakhpur Express 04924 and 04923 special trains from December 3, 2015 to January 1, 2016.

Officials of the Ambala Division said the demand had been sent to the Northern Railway authorities to add coaches in express trains as it catered to a huge rush of passengers.

While the the Ambala Division has sent proposals of adding coaches in the three long -route trains which ply from Chandigarh to various destinations. The demand is made of adding sleeper, general and AC class coaches, depending on the waiting list of the trains. In Chandigarh to Lucknow train the Ambala Division demanded one air-condition, four sleepers and one general coach and in the Chandigarh to Allahabad train, there is demand for three more sleepers.

Another train for which additional coaches were required keeping in view of its long waiting list is for the train from Chandigarh to Lucknow. There is a demand for one second class air-condition, one third class air-condition and six sleepers.
