Authorities in Bathinda Central Jail are clandestinely getting ready to welcome a high profile prisoner from Tihar Jail.
Cell number-2 of B Class barrack is being spruced up with installation of a western style toilet, whitewashing and barbed wires for security reasons.
Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala, a close friend of CM Parkash Singh Badal is all set to be shifted here soon. He is undergoing 10 years imprisonment in the JBT teachers scam following dismissal of his appeal in the Supreme Court.
A no-objection certificate has been submitted by Punjab to Delhi government.
Sanjay Kumar, Principal Secretary, Home (Jails) and an inspecting judge visited the jail today. Kumar and Jail Superintendent Sukhwinder Sahota expressed complete ignorance on the issue. “I have no idea about this move. It is my routine visit and nothing more,” he said. He spent a few hours to ensure completion of all modalities.
Besides the toilet, Chautala would be provided with wooden furniture, including double beds, chairs and all the other “basic” facilities, jail sources said. Also the small boundary walls of the barrack are being secured with barbed wires.
