Akali govt’s order on Saragarhi Memorial cancelled

The Cabinet decided to hand over the management of the Saragarhi Memorial (in pic) to the Saragarhi Memorial Management Trust, Ferozepur, to ensure better upkeep of the historical site.

With this, the Cabinet cancelled an order of the previous SAD-BJP government that had entrusted the management of the memorial to Baba Nand Singh Gurdwara Nanaksar Kaleran, Jagraon, for 30 years. The SAD-BJP government had issued the order after Baba Lakha Singh of Nanaksar Samparday submitted an application, demanding that the maintenance of the memorial should be transferred to Baba Nand Singh Gurdwara Nanaksar Kaleran. CM Capt Amarinder Singh had announced to transfer the management of the memorial to the Trust at the release of his book on the Battle of Saragarhi. 

OBC quota in institutions UP

The government has doubled OBC reservation in educational institutions to 10 per cent. The quota for members of Backward Classes has also been increased in technical and professional institutions. The enhancement in quota comes into effect immediately as the Department of Welfare of SCs and BCs has already issued a notification in this connection. The decision does not impact the reservation for SCs and STs, which remains unchanged at 25 per cent.
