The only daughter of her parents, Amandeep had gone to Mohali 10 days ago for a training course in PHP development along with three other girls of the area.

“Had we knew about the threat, we would have never let her go,” said Manpreet, her elder brother.

The aggrieved residents of the village described Amandeep as a jovial girl. Having born in the family of agriculturists, Amandeep wanted to pursue her career as a computer professional. She had recently completed Master’s in Computer Application from a local engineering college.

But her life’s journey was cut short. She was allegedly shot dead by Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Razzowala village in the district, after she refused to accept his marriage proposal.

Villagers said Amandeep was a tough girl and she very well realised that marrying a boy of a different caste would not be acceptable to her family so she profusely declined his proposal.

Anguished relatives of Amandeep, including her brother Manpreet and uncles Avtar Singh and Balwinder Singh, demanded strict action against the accused and his accomplices.
