Sanjeev Chauhan, secretary organising committee of the championship, said 25 players in total had been selected from the state, of which seven were from Haridwar district. The championship would be organised from May 1 to 7 in Puducherry, for which special coaching would be given to the players, he added. Assistant coach Shivam Ahuja said the five players had immense talent and potential.

Shivangi Rajput, a Class 12 student of DAV Centenary School, Jagjeetpur, said it was hard work, and guidance of parents and school principal PC Purohit that made it possible for her to achieve the feat.

Industrialist UC Jain assured the basketball association and coaches of full support in providing basic infrastructure and other facilities to the city players.
