37 to get ‘Tamra Patra’

As many as 37 residents of the district who had struggled for the restoration of democratic values during the Emergency will be honoured with ‘Tamra Patra’ during the Republic Day function here tomorrow.

While 22 of them will receive their awards themselves, the remaining 15 will be honoured posthumously and their family members will collect the award.

Deputy Commissioner CG Rajinikaanthan said, “The state government has decided to honour those persons on Republic Day who had suffered during the Emergency, which was declared on June 25, 1975, and withdrawn on March 21, 1977. A ‘Tamra Patra’ will be given to each of them in recognition of their struggle for upholding democracy in the country.” The honour would be given by Minister of State for Mines and Geology Department Nayab Singh Saini, he said.

“Several of them are now settled in various districts and states and invitations have been sent to them for the Republic Day celebrations,” he added.
