To felicitate newly elected office-bearers, an investiture was organised at the BCM Arya Model Secondary School, Shastri Nagar. Richa Agnihotri, PPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP- Traffic) was the chief guest. A warm floral welcome was accorded to her. The programme began with lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest followed by a welcome song. Speaking on the occasion, Agnihotri congratulated the office -bearers and motivated them to lead the school community by example rather than words. School song was another added attraction during the programme which lent colour to it. Head boy Puranjit Singh, head girl Akanksha Wadhwa and school captain Pahul Sharma expressed their gratitude to the school authorities and redeemed their pledge to take responsibility. The programme ended with the recital of National Anthem.

Dining etiquettes taught

Realising the importance of good manners to be put at the right age, especially table manners, a special seminar was organised at Green Grove public school. The seminar was sponsored by two renowned organizations “YI (young Indians) and CII.” The persons to hold the attention throughout the event was no other than Miss Roopa Pahwa, who is a popular figure in Ludhiana, an entrepreneur, she runs Roopa consultancy that offers special services related to table manners, personality development and makeover etc. It was an attractive session which included brainstorming and a practical demo of using the dining table. Dining tables were laid artistically and very professionally to suit various occasions. A hands-on- approach helped every member of the team.

Vegetable week

With a view to infuse healthy eating habits among tiny tots, vegetable week was celebrated in the elementary campus of DCM Presidency School. Various activities were carried out in the school to acquaint the students with a variety of vegetables and their importance. Students dressed up as their favourite vegetable. They were also shown how vegetables are grown and look after during their growth. The children enthusiastically participated in all the activities. Reuben, deputy head, elementary campus, said children learnt about various vegetables through fun filled activities.

Sawan utsav

Manav Vidya Mandir located in Walipur Kalan, celebrated Sawan Utsav by planting saplings on the campus. Students enthusiastically planted saplings in the surroundings of the school. Students sang ‘Raag Malhar’ for worshiping the rain Gods. Students were given saplings to plant in their homes.

Declamation contest

An English declamation contest was organised by Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Park, for the students of Classes IX to XII. The purpose of holding this contest was to hone the oratory skills of the young learners. This competition provided a platform to the speakers to express their opinions and develop their confidence level. The participants articulated themselves on various topics like – generation next, generation violent, let girls be born and bloom, child abuse. Besides growing reality, global warming, India as an emerging superpower and so on. Judges of the contest were principal Harmeet Kaur Waraich and veteran teacher of English Kiranjit Kaur. The first position was bagged by Harleen Kaur of Class X who spoke on the topic ‘Let girls be born and bloom’. The second position was won by Tanveen Kaur of Class XI. The third rank was won by Subeg Singh of Class X A and Ekamveer Singh of Class X C. Harmeet Kaur Waraich congratulated all the winners and appreciated the efforts put in by all the participants. She also shared some of tips on public speaking with all the students.

Debate competition

MGM Public School, Dugri, organized English debate competition for Classes III to VI. The participants displayed their potential and utilised their thorough knowledge to emerge victorious. Different topics were given to the students. Kamalpreet Kaur from Class VII stood first, Chahat from Class III stood second and Lovish from Class V stood third. Prizes were distributed and certificates were awarded to all the students. GS Thind and principal Poonam Sharma appreciated the hard work of the students.

Inter-school declamation contest

GGN Public School, Civil lines, organised Giani Harjit Singh Memorial Inter-School Declamation Contest in the memory of one of the founder members Giani Harjit Singh, who played a pivotal role in the inception and growth of Gujranwala Khalsa Educational Institutions. As many as 46 budding speakers from the renowned CBSE affiliated schools of the city participated in this prestigious contest. Director-Principal of the school Karnail Singh welcomed the participating teams and the distinguished guests. In English, Muskan Gumber of KVM School stood first, Nitika of Greenland School stood second, Ria Jain of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, stood third. An appreciation award in English was won by Manvi Saini of Sacred Soul Convent School. Chief Guest Parveen Kaur Chawla, principal, Master Tara Singh Memorial College for Women, gave prizes to the winners and applauded their remarkable and confident performances.

Teej celebrated

Pre-primary wing of Guru Nanak International Public School, Model Town, celebrated the traditional festival of Teej with full enthusiasm and zeal. The whole wing wore a festive look as it was beautifully decorated with flowers and phulkaris. The students and staff members looked vibrant in traditional Punjabi outfits. The little girls wearing salwar kameez and other accessories like bangles, Punjabi jutti, tikka, while the boys were decked up in kurta pyjama and kurta chadra presented the perfect picture of ‘mutiars’ arid ‘gabrus’ of Punjab. A small cultural programme was presented by the little ones including speech, poems, bhangra and giddha depicting the vibrant Punjabi culture.

Blossoms Convent School

Blossoms Convent School, Jagraon, celebrated Teej festival to celebrate the month of Saavan. Girls came in beautiful Punjabi suits. Students enjoyed kheer, maal-pudhe, gulgule and other sweet dishes. Girls were very excited due to Teej and they performed Giddha. Teachers also celebrated Teej with students. They recited songs to eradicate the social evils. Principal Amarjit Kaur Naaz said Teej festival is an important festival of Saavan and inspired the students to celebrate these kinds of festivals to preserve their culture and inspired the students to raise their firm hands against social evils. Chairman of Management Committee Harbhajan Singh, director Major Singh and head Manpreet Singh Brar were also present. Shamrock Christian School Shamrock Christian Senior Secondary School celebrated Teej with a great pomp and show. Students and teachers of the KG block took the initiative to celebrate the festival with full enthusiasm and zeal. The young ones looked wonderful in the Punjabi attire. The swings were decorated with colourful flowers, balloons and dupattas. The tiny tots tapped their feet on the tune of dhol and performed giddha and bhangra. The whole atmosphere gave a perfect ambience to the occasion. It was a rich feast for the students as they were given eatables and chocolates. The teachers told them the importance of the festival in the form of a story. UKG students presented a wonderful Punjabi skit, while the LKG students sang a Punjabi folk lore. Fruits day

Fruits and vegetables day was celebrated by the students of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School, Jalandhar Bye Pass. Students from pre- nursery to Class I participated in it. The stage was nicely decorated with fruits and vegetables. The programme began with a ramp walk by the students. It was a delight to watch the tiny tots dressed up as various fruits and vegetables. A poem recitation competition was also held in which the students recited poems about the favourite fruits and vegetables. Overall it was a delightful experience watching the tiny tots being inspired by their teachers for a healthy art of living. Principal Baldeep Pandher and headmistress Ruby Sharma appreciated the effort put in by the staff and students.

Saplings planted

Students of Manav Rachna International School planted saplings on the school campus. Teachers briefed the students about how trees are integral to the survival of mankind; role trees play in maintaining balance in nature. Students learnt about saving the environment by planting more trees. School gave them an opportunity to save the environment by planting trees in real. Speaking on this occasion, Shilpi Gill, vice-principal, said the world has talked enough to save the environment; it’s time to act now. — TNS
