Khalsa college wins overall trophy in PU zonal youth fest

Khalsa College for Women clinched the overall trophy at the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival held at SDP College, Ludhiana.
The college won as many as 43 prizes, beating ten colleges of Zone B to take the lead. Students clinched 11 first prizes, 10 second prizes and 22 third prizes in various categories.
Managing Committee and Principal Mukti Gill congratulated the teachers and students and encouraged the young artists to take part in cultural events.
Urja Chawla, who scored the third position in Sitar-playing competition, said she practised for more than one month to learn the art.
Ankita who won the second position in tabla (percussion category) competition, gave the credit to her music teacher for her success.
Eight students who took part in the orchestra event, secured the second position.
Komal, who played dhol, didn’t score any position. However, she got accolades from the audience. Priyanka Routela, Navleen and Navjot, who were declared winners in dance, luddi and gidda, respectively, gave credit to their teacher Shubhjeet Kaur for success.
College clinched the first position in events including ghazal, quiz, crocheting, collage making, photography, muhavredar vartalap, essay writing, group dance, giddha and group dance.
The second positons were bagged in competitions such as mimicry, embroidery, mehndi-applying, mime, drama, histrionics, essay writing, orchestra (Indian), percussion and traditional singing.
The third prizes were secured in events such as classical vocal, basket-making, paranda-making, heritage quiz, peehri-making, skit, knitting, cross-stitch, clay-modelling, on-the-spot painting, muhavredar vartalap, poem recitation, poster-making, non-percussion, luddi, kali and vaar.
