The University of Jammu (JU) has been granted a financial assistance of Rs 16.75 crore under the Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence (PURSE) programme launched by the Union Department of Science and Technology (DST).
In its communication, the Union Ministry of Science and Technology has intimated that the University of Jammu has been allocated a grant of Rs 16.75 crore under its DST-PURSE programme.
The PURSE is an incentive award scheme with a focus on rejuvenation of research in Indian universities. The University of Jammu was first awarded grant under the scheme in 2011.
Later, an independent study was undertaken by the Department of Science and Technology to analyse the performance of universities through publications in Scopus data base for a 10-year-period (2002-2012) and h-index along with the number of publications of the university.
The coordinator of the PURSE programme, Prof Rajni Dhingra, Dean, Faculty of Science, while deliberating on the technical aspects of the programme, said the DST has decided to support the university further for a few more years on the basis of quality research output in the form of publications.
“The University of Jammu is among 29 universities of the country which has been identified for provision of varying amounts of support depending on the h-index value of research publications and their citations at the global level,” she said.
