Five days after the Kala Kachha gang struck at Barwala, leaving a couple injured, 10 to 12 members of the gang attacked six of a family at Manekpur village and robbed them of cash and jewellery worth Rs 4 lakhs.
All except children were injured in the incident. The victims were hit with batons and rods. They were rushed to the General Hospital, Sector 6, and were discharged after treatment. The incident took place around 2 am last night.
“Somebody knocked at the door of our house. When I opened it, I found no one but as I turned, I was hit on the head by some masked men, who were in undergarments and had applied oil on their bodies,” said Gurmeet Singh, owner of the house.
Hearing his shrieks, Gurmeet Singh’s wife Bhupinder got up but two of the robbers pointed a pistol at her and asked her to knock the door of the room of her younger son Balwinder,” said Station House Officer Mahender Singh.
“Balwinder was hit on the head and his wife Ramanpreet was also attacked by the robbers,” added the SHO. Three of the robbers then started searching Balwinder’s room and asked his wife to remove the jewellery.
After hearing shrieks of his family members, Gurmeet’s elder son Dharmender locked his room. “The robbers manged to open the door with some difficulty,” added the SHO.
Even Dharmender’s wife was injured and the robbers started searching for the valuables in their room. For about 25 minutes, the robbers ransacked the house and fled with jewellery and cash.
