Mohali, February 27

Two BTech students of the Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Landran, died in a road accident near a gurdwara on the Landran-Kharar road at Santemajra village this afternoon. The victims, identified as Rahul Kumar (19) and Prerna Purn (19), were relatives and hailed from Jharkhand.

They were on a motorcycle which was hit by a tipper. The police said Rahul died on the way to hospital while Prerna succumbed to injuries at the PGI. The police said the tipper had hit a bus earlier. Its driver was driving it at a high speed to escape the police when it hit the motorcycle.

“Rahul was a student of semester four of Mechanical Engineering while Prerna was in the 2nd semester of BTech (IT) in our college,” said Rashpal Singh Dhaliwal, president of the college.

The police have arrested the tipper driver and impounded the vehicle. — TNS
