Kamal Chopra, general secretary of the Offset Printers Association, Ludhiana, will be representing India during the World Print Communication Forum (WPCF) to be held at Porto (Portugal) on June 4, 5 and 6, 2015. Chopra is the chairman of International Relations at the All-India Federation of Master Printers. Printer representatives of more than 23 countries are going to participate in this meeting.
Meeting
A meeting of programme officers of all the National Services Units was held here on Thursday under the leadership of Davinder Singh Lote, assistant director, Youth Services, Ludhiana. A discussion was held on youth leadership training camps, teacher training camps and mountaineering camp. The participants also discussed about the celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21.
Permits to 40 city buses
The Regional Transport Authority, Patiala, has released 40 permits for city buses. With this, now remaining 40 city buses will start plying on routes, including Chandigarh Road up to Kohara, Ferozepur Road, Pakhowal Road, Sahnewal, Metro, etc. Additional Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said permits had been collected and the process for remaining routes would start within a week, which would be completed after a month or so. These permits would be valid up to five years.
Encroachments razed
The tehbazari wing of Zone A again removed temporary encroachments from congested markets, including Kitab Bazaar, Electrical Market, Lakkar Bazaar, Metro To Sabzi Mandi. The team removed about 27 encroachments while stocks and material of shops lying outside on roads by shopkeepers were lifted by the team.
Sant Kabir remembered
A function was organised to mark the 617 birth anniversary of Sant Kabir under the leadership of Dr Kamaljit Soi, president of NGO/Antyodya Cell, BJP Punjab. Dr Soi said that all should follow the guidelines given by Sant Kabir. “We should work to rise above caste, creed and religion. All human beings are equal and should be given equal respect,” he said.
Medical quiz
SD Deodhar Rheumatology Quiz for postgraduate students of Medicine was held at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital on Thursday. The quiz was organised by the Indian Rheumatology Association (IRA) to evaluate the knowledge of participants about the chronic and painful disease. Four teams from different medical colleges, including DMCH-Ludhiana, SGRD-Amritsar, CMC-Ludhiana and Guru Gobind Singh Medical College (GGS)-Faridkot participated in the quiz. There were five rounds in the quiz, which had various questions pertaining to rheumatology and immunology. Principal Dr Sandeep Puri presided over the programme and awarded certificates to the participants. The winners of the quiz will go for the North Zonal Round to be held at Delhi in the near future.
Students make city proud
Five students made city proud by garnering state ranks in the Olympiad Awards which was held recently in Delhi. The award ceremony was organised by the Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF). About 40 lakh students from over 31,500 schools in 1,400 cities across India and 19 countries participated in the Olympiad exams in 2014-15. Harsh Agarwal of Class X from DAV Public School bagged State Rank-I. Four other students got Rank 2. These students were Ananya Chowdhery of Class III from Sat Paul Mittal School and Aakarshit Uppal of Class XII from Bharatiya Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana.
Patient needs financial help
Munna Kumar, an 18-year-old admitted to Christian Medical College and Hospital needs financial help. He has been diagnosed with large hole in his heart and needs an early major open heart surgery.
