Vijayadashmi observed with pledge to save Ganga

Dasehra (Vijayadashmi) was celebrated with gaiety, with burning of effigies of Ravana and Meghnath at all the Ramlila enactments here today.

Organisers of the Chowk Bazaar Sri Ramlila Samiti, Jwalapur, administered oath to spectators before burning the effigies of Ravana and Meghnath on saving holy Ganga from pollution. People in large numbers vowed to work towards cleaning the Ganga. Samiti president Shri Kant Vasisth and coordinator Sudhir Sharma said the samiti took this initiative taking into consideration the pollution level in the Ganga.

At Sri Ramlila committee, Mayapur (Rodi Belwala), Shiv Moorti Square-Kankhal Road Ramlila, Kankhal-Krishna Nagar Ramlila, Ram Nagar Jwalapur Ramlila and BHEL Sector-1Ramlila, people were seen in large numbers to see the enactment of these Ramlilas. Students of Dev Sanskriti University and Shantikunj activists performed the Ramlila at the Gayatri Teerth Shantikunj, Mahamrityunjay Auditorium.

Adequate security arrangements were put in place in wake of the Dussehra festive across the district.

Superintendent of City Police Mani Kant Mishra said additional police personnel were deployed at sensitive police stations to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of the Dasehra festival. City Kotwali police station, Jwalapur, Ranipur, Ganga Nahar ,Mangalore, Bhagwanpur, Lakshar, Pathri and Bahadrabad were provided with one platoon of Provincial Armed Constabulary at each police station, while one-and-half section of PAC was allocated for Jabhreda police station.

The security set-up will remain similar tomorrow for Muharram with deployment of additional traffic personnel, firefighters, tear gas, bomb disposal squad, sniffer squad at all sensitive points.
