To achieve something worthwhile is never too early, neither it is ever too late if the dream is strong enough. This has been proven one more time through the pioneering work of Abhirup Khanna and Sarishma, both final-year students of University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun. Abhirup hails from Uttarakhand while Sarishma is from Haryana. They came together in the UPES as classmates at the Centre for Information Technology four years ago in 2012. They would be graduating out with B.Tech Computer Science degrees with specialization in cloud computing this year.

In their second year, Abhirup and Sarishma decided to jointly write a research paper on ‘Mobile Cloud Computing’ and started exploring various works already existing in the field. They soon discovered that not a single book was available on “Mobile Cloud Computing”. This finding made them change their goal posts and they embarked on the pursuit of jointly authoring a book on the subject.

S Ramaswamy, Principal Secretary, released the book titled “Mobile Cloud Computing” co-authored by the two young and budding engineers in his office here on Friday. Dr Shrihari, Vice-Chancellor of UPES ,and Arun Dhand, Director of Government Relations and Media Affairs, were present on the occasion.

Abhirup, who did his summer internship with Xebia IT Architects in Gurgaon and is a certified Hadoop developer, stated that mobile cloud computing was a result of amalgamation of two technologies cloud computing and mobile computing and would be instrumental in solving many issues of smart phones by leveraging some concepts of cloud computing. With the ever increasing use of smart phones, it is evident that the next paradigm shift after cloud computing would be mobile cloud Computing, he said.

Sarishma who also did her summer internship with Xebia IT Architects, said besides covering topics on ‘Mobile Computational Offloading’ and ‘Cloud Assisted Mobile Augmentation’, the book also explains the concept of ‘Cloudlets’ by which readers would be able to create their own local clouds using their mobile phone devices.
