Tributes paid to martyr Ashfaqulla Khan

The J&K Freedom Fighters Association remembered the freedom fighters who made supreme sacrifices for the freedom of the motherland. A function was organised in the memory of martyr Ashfaqulla Khan on his birth anniversary at Dogra Shaheedi Sthal, Amphalla, by president of the association Ved Gandotra.

During the function, the speakers threw light on the life of Ashfaqulla Khan. “He was the best friend of Ram Parsad Bismil. With their Urdu poetry, they enlightened the brain and hearts of the youth with the love for their motherland and evoked the sense to liberate India from the clutches of the English empire,” speakers said.

Floral tributes were also paid to other great freedom fighters. They included Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Chandra Shekhar Azad, Maharani Laxmi Bai, Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Raj Guru.

Prominent among others present on the occasion were Rajiv Mahajan, Sandeep Singh Sunny, Vikrant Sharma, Ashwani Gupta, Vivek Sharma, Parbhat Kapahi, Ram Rattan Raina, Tej Ram Dogra, Brij Mehra, Rajinder Singh, Rattan Sabharwal, Pritam Sharma and Binny Mahajan.

Ashfaqulla Khan was born on October 22, 1900, at Shahjanpur and was hanged to death on December 19, 1927, at Faizabad.
