Ashwani Shankar and Sanjeev Shankar, shehnai players, enthralled the students of schools, colleges and other institutions during a three-day event organised by Spic Macay that concluded here today.

Sanjeev and Ashwini Shankar performed at Dolphin (PG) Institute of Biomedical and Natural Sciences, Graphic Era University, Hopetown Girl’s School, Universal Academy, John Martin Memorial School and State Nursing College.

The duo has learnt shehnai from their father Pt Daya Shankar, grandfather and the legendary shehnai player Pt Anant Lal. They mastered the skill under the legendary sitar maestro late Pt Ravi Shankar. They have won the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Award.

Both gave scintillating performances which were the perfect platform to immerse oneself in the rare vocal style of shehnai playing. The students were completely engrossed by the mysticism in the melodious tunes of the “Mangal Vaadya”.
