Samrala Chowk all set for makeover

The Municipal Corporation has planned a beautification drive at Samrala Chowk with the help of volunteers and city-based NGOs. Officials of the MC have also invited students, artists and residents for making their contribution to the drive.
Ghanshyam Thori, Municipal Commissioner, said besides artists, who have painted graffiti on many bridges in the city, members of the Ludhiana Cares Ladies Society and students of Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College are likely to participate in the beautification drive.
The MC staff will remove posters from the pillars of the bridge and clean the area.
Ghanshyam Thori said: “We have planned this drive to give a makeover to the underbridge at Samrala Chowk, and interested artists can join the cause.” The main aim is to make each and every corner of the industrial city beautiful. They are identifying major roads, bridges and walls of the city for the purpose, he added.
The MC has spent Rs 6.87 lakh on the city beautification project so far. Artists have covered the Gill Chowk flyover and its pillars in graffiti on the themes “Make in Punjab” and “Wall of Fame”.
Similarly, graffiti on themes such as “Women Empowerment”, “Wall of Revolution”, “Punjab India Begins Here”, “Music and Dance”, “Ethnic Punjab” and “Child Education” will adorn Samrala Chowk, BRS Nagar, Jagraon Bridge, Dholewal Bridge and Sherpur Chowk.
The work is being done with the help of AP Refinery, LCET and SPS Hospital.
