One of the replicas of the Commonwealth Games mascot Shera, which had hit the headlines after being stolen from the high-security zone at the Sukhna Lake and one of the busiest chowks of Mohali, Verka Chowk, is now a part of the ‘junk’ lying at the Phase I Police Station. The police have dumped the fibre glass statue in the backyard of the police station amid old tyres, drums and motorcycles. According to the sources at the police station, nobody has ever asked about the seven-foot tall statue, which still attracts several visitors there.

Notably, two statues of Shera were installed at Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh and Verka Chowk at Mohali in October 2010 ahead of the Commonwealth Games. Both statues caught the fancy of thieves then and were stolen. Though the police had recovered both statues later, these were not installed again.
