Though officials of the Dehradun Municipal Corporation (DMC) often claim providing good sanitation, the ground reality is to the contrary. Residents of several colonies falling in Reetha Mandi (Ward No. 40) have been complaining about the “improper” door-to-door garbage lifting. They say more sanitation workers should be deployed to maintain cleanliness in the area.
People accuse sanitation workers of laxity. “Sanitation workers seldom visit the area. The delay results in heaps of garbage in different areas of the ward. An effective plan should be implemented to improve the door-to-door garbage collection system,” said a group of residents while talking to The Tribune.
The menace of stray animal is another issue the residents have been facing. Stray dogs and other animals can be seen loitering near the garbage. Sometimes they run after passers-by, making commuting a tough task, especially for senior citizens and children.
Another reason for garbage seen littered in the is shortage of dustbins. “The Municipal Corporation should draft a proposal to frequently clean drains in the ward. Most of the times garbage chokes drains, resulting in water-logging, particularly during the rainy season,” residents say.
