NGO, Microsoft to educate students on environment conservation

Waste Warriors, a local NGO, launched an environmental education programme in partnership with Microsoft India today. The programme, called ‘Create to Inspire,’ has been designed to give teachers new strategies to engage students in activities related to sustainable consumption and lifestyle. The programme is being launched in eight cities across the country this month.

A total of 75 schools in Dehradun have been chosen to participate in the six-month programme. During a three-hour induction session, held at Scholar’s Home School in Jakhan on Saturday, a set of 14 toolkits with a variety of exercises was presented to the teachers. Two teachers from each school were invited to the session.

The toolkits aim to give teachers ideas on how they could teach students about the environment in an informative yet interactive way.

The schools that participated in the induction workshop were— Carman Residential and Day School, Prem Nagar; Cambrian Hall; Children’s Academy; Col Brown Cambridge School; Doon Cambridge School; Doon Valley International School; Doon Valley Public School; Doon Blossoms School; Doon World School; George Public School; KV No 1; Little Angel’s School; Mount Fort Academy; Modern High School; New Doon Blossoms School; Prince Niketan Public School; Sangam Public School; Sophia High School; Scholar’s Home; SGRRPS, Race Course; St George’s Academy and Viverly Public School.

The Eco System Partners for the programme are Aasraa Trust, Confederation of Indian Industry, Young Indians, Clover Organic, Uttarakhand Environment Protection and Pollution Control Board and the Wildlife Institute of India.
