The activists were protesting against the rising incidents of criminal activists against women in the state outside the Secretariat.

The workers marched to the Secretariat to present a memorandum of their demands to the Health Secretary. However, they were prevented by the police personnel from moving ahead, provoking women activists.

They further jostled with police personnel in a bid to enter the Secretariat.

The activists have alleged that cases of harassment and violence against women were on the rise and the state government officials were protecting the perpetuators of such crimes.

They charged that an employee of the Health Department in Haridwar, working as a technician, was charged with a similar case of harassment by the court. But, he was neither suspended nor any action was taken against him by the department.

In the memorandum addressed to the Health Secretary, the activists have charged that despite being charged by a court under Section 354 of the IPC, the department had failed to take action against him.

They have demanded immediate action against the accused. Later, they submitted their memorandum to the police officials.
