A Garhwali food festival began at Jaypee Residency Manor, a five-star hotel, in Mussoorie on Thursday.

Tourists were in for a treat and they were seen relishing traditional dishes from Garhwal, namely phaanu made of dals (lentils), chainsoo dry or gravied dish prepared using black gram dal (kala chana) with its variant preparation made with black bhaat called bhatwani.

Kafuli, a thick gravy dish made from spinach leaves, jholi, a thin and watery gravy usually made with tomatoes, potatoes, tubers and curd, were also served on the occasion. The other dishes served were koda (millet) roti and gulguley.—TNS
