Electrician killed while fixing elevator

An electrician was strangled to death after being caught in the ropes of an elevator. The incident took place at a factory located on Bahadurke Road this afternoon when the elevator installed at Dua Garments developed a snag.

The victim, identified as Vijay Kumar, went to the roof top to fix the elevator. While Vijay was rectifying the snag, the elevator suddenly started moving.

Balwinder Singh, SHO of the Jodhewal Basti police station, said before Vijay Kumar could react, the jacket he was wearing got stuck in the wheel of the elevator and in no time he got strangled.

Factory workers rushed to help him and stopped the elevator. The rope was cut with great difficulty and Vijay was rushed to a hospital. The doctors declared him dead on arrival.

A native of Bihar, Vijay Kumar worked as an electrician at the factory. He lived at Banda Bahadur Colony located nearby. He is survived by two daughters and wife.

The SHO said investigation was on and appropriate action as per the law would be taken against guilty persons.
