Documentary on 1947 Sikh killings released

A documentary titled ‘Santap-an untold story of 1947’ based on the killings of Sikhs during the ‘tribal attack’ in the Kashmir valley in 1947 was released at the Gurdwara Shaheed Bunga here today.
Sikh historian and filmmaker Dr Sukhpreet Singh Udoke, who has directed the documentary, said it was made to remember the 1947 martyrs in ‘tribal attack’.
He said the documentary was shot after a thorough research of more than three years in which survivors of the attack were the firsthand source of information.
“It is mandatory for our present and future generations to know about the pious and unforgettable sacrifices of their elders where they willingly sacrificed their lives to save their honor and religion. This will be an inspiring lesson to the current generation where they need to remember and follow the pious footsteps of their elders where they kept their faith, religion and honour first than life,” he added.
Speaking on the occasion, All Party Sikh Coordination Committee chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina reiterated the demand for grant of minority status to the Sikh community and urged the state government to fill all the vacant posts of Punjabi lecturers from school to university level. Daleep Singh Deepak, an eyewitness of the massacre of 1947, shared the pain and trauma of the happening and urged Sikh youth not to forget their legacy and heritage.
