Many bus queue shelters in various sectors of the city were dismantled overnight. Interestingly,
nobody in the Administration knows who is damaging the government property. Meanwhile, daily commuters are a surprised lot when they see roofs, chairs and other infrastructure missing.
One of the commuters, Kamal, who takes a CTU bus daily from Sector 19, said he was surprised when he saw the roof of the bus queue shelters missing three days ago. He said initially he thought that the Administration might be replacing these with new ones.
The iron pillars and other items had also been removed. People complained that it was difficult to stand there without any facility.
Some shelters have half-broken roofs where the remaining iron pillars can cause injuries to commuters.
Sanjay, a daily commuter from Sector 20, said, the broken bus queue shelters were a blot on the face of the city. “We all know that Chandigarh is called City Beautiful but these portrait a picture of neglect,” he said.
When contacted, Mukesh Anand, Chief Engineer, UT Administration, said he did not have any idea who damaged the bus queue shelters.
On the other hand, Amit Talwar, Director, Transport, said he was also surprised to see dismantled bus queue shelters.
NP Sharma, Chief Engineer, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, said the bus queue shelters were looked after by the city Administration.
