Ludhiana, October 10
Animal health care is set to get a boost in the state with the proposed setting up of a veterinary ayurveda research centre at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Ludhiana.
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Science (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH, has approved the setting up of a veterinary ayurveda research centre at the university.
This will be the first centre in the country to promote research in the new and upcoming branch of veterinary ayurveda.
Dr Suresh Kumar Sharma, Head of the Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology, said several veterinary colleges and universities across the country had applied for the ayurveda centre and four institutes in different states were shortlisted.
A high-level delegation from CCRAS had visited the university in June.
He expressed hope that this research centre would provide a much-needed platform for integrated programmes in animal health care. CCRAS will appoint six officials at this centre, under the administrative control of GADVASU.
Vice-Chancellor Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda said the university conducts need-based research to cater to the farmers’ needs.
