ML Sharma, Fire Officer, said that since it was a godown, ply board, cloth, carpet, plastic chairs and thermocol in large quantity was stored here. “The cause of the fire is yet to be established”, he added.

Sources said the thermocol caught fire turning the entire godown into ashes.

The sources said there were around 12 workers inside the tent house out of which three suffered burn injuries while others managed to escape.

The Fire Officer said the injured were rushed to the government hospital before the fire tenders arrived at the spot. It took around three hours to douse the flames.

Narrow lane, no power obstructs rescue work

The firefighters had a tough time dousing the flames in the absence of lights. The narrow lane up to the tent house also hampered the firefighting operation.

Help sought from P’kula Fire Dept

Assistance from the Panchkula Fire Department was also sought, however, due to the ongoing Jat stir in Haryana, the fire tenders were not could not be provided.
