On the 25th anniversary of anti-Mandal Commission agitation of 1990, the Aarakshan Virodhi Manch Jammu (AVMJ) today organised a function to pay tributes to those who lost their lives during the agitation.

The function began with the lightning of a lamp and followed by chanting of “Gayatri mantra” by Raj Kumar Banathia, vice-president of the manch. After that a two-minute silence was observed.

Ram Lal Seth, AVMJ president, said the movement was sabotaged by all political parties of the country. He added that in the name of reservation, discrimination was being done against the poor of all castes. Yash Pal Sason, general secretary of the manch, asked the people to follow in the footsteps of those who sacrificed their lives to end discrimination in the society. Som Nath Sharma and Yash Pal Sharma also spoke.
