Trash strewn on ground

The ground adjacent to the Iskcon temple in Sector 36 is rented out for holding functions. However, once the event gets over, the leftovers, especially plastic items are seldom picked and can be seen scattered all over the ground. The plastic items used in a marriage function held recently are still lying on the ground. The authorities concerned should not release security until strewn garbage is removed from the ground and in case the party fails to clean up the mess, the security should be forfeited.

Vaccinate stray dogs

Canine menace is increasing day by day which is proving disastrous for pedestrians and two-wheeler drivers. Garbage dumped on streets is the main reason behind this as dogs usually feed on them. Moreover, poor treatment of rabies in India also presents a bleak picture. Though animal lovers decry move for any strict action against dogs, there is an urgent need to sterilise and vaccinate dogs to deal with increasing canine menace.

Victory of gender equality

Ultimately, Panjab University (PU) authorities had to bow down before genuine and legitimate demands of students. The PU Senate decision to open girls’ hostel 24X7 for which the student council had been protesting for the last 48 days is a step in the right direction. Moreover, abolishing all kinds of fine for late entry in girls’ hostels has also brought forth gender equality. The Constitution of India’s Article 14 (Right to Equality) was denied to girls by the PU authorities. The decision should be taken as a warning to treat women with dignity and equality. Now, it is the responsibility of the university as well as the Chandigarh Administration to provide security to girl students.
