The Chandigarh Sahitya Akademy organised a trilingual kavi sammelan to mark the birth anniversary of invincible Punjabi poet Shiv Kumar Batalvi at the UT Guest House complex here today.  

The akademy secretary, Dr Jaspal Singh, highlighted the life and literary achievements of Shiv Batalvi. The guest speaker, Gurbachan, an author and critic, Prem Vij, and Neeraj Raizada offered a critical appreciation of poet’s works.

  “Shiv Batalvi has given a new dimension to Punjabi poetry and took it to a spectacular level,” said Gurbachan. The poets, who excelled with their poetic recitations on the occasion, include Vijay Kapoor, Siri Ram Arsh, Shams Tabrezi,  Amarjit Amar, Prem Vijh, Sushil Hasrat Narelvi, Neeraj Raizada, Nirmal Jaswal Rana, Anil Pandey, Ashwini Shandilya, Ajay Rana,   Amarjit Ghuman, Sukhwinder and Jatinder Parwaaz.  

Chandigarh Sahitya Akademy chairman Madhav Kaushik expressed gratitude to the poets and the large gathering at the programme.
