The hosts, Theatre for theatre (TFT) group, presented the 421st edition of their prestigious production ‘Court Martial’, under the direction of Sudesh Sharma, in the 13th TFT drama festival underway at Navrang Theatre here today.
The classic play, staged more than 5,000 times in India and abroad by different drama ensembles, is a testimony to the literary intelligence of its author Swadesh Deepak as it draws huge audience rush in every presentation.
The play opened in an ambience of an Army trial court where legal Army lawyers put forth their interpretations of the circumstances in which innocent Sawaar Ram Chander, coming from a lower caste, allegedly opened fire on two higher caste Army officers, as they refused to pronounce the specified ‘entry code word’ enquired by the victim.
The play had eloquently debated the evil of caste prejudice ailing our society so much so that even the most disciplined and secular organisation , the Indian Army, is not free of it.
With a view to heighten the climax the verdict is left to the wisdom of the audience.
