“The service has been introduced with the help Axis Bank,” Bajwa said.

The consumers would be informed about the water and sewerage bill amount and the last date of payment through a message on the SMS, he said. After the successful operation in Mohali, the service will soon be introduced in Faridkot, Muktsar, Fatehgarh Sahib and Anandpur Sahib, and then extended to rural areas.

Bajwa also introduced a one-time settlement scheme, which provided for paying arrears of water bills. Consumers can settle their dues by paying actual user charges subject to maximum of Rs 2,000. He launched another scheme, under which illegal water connections would be regularised by paying a one-time fee of Rs 1,000 only.

“The benefit of the schemes can be availed till February 28,” Bajwa added.
