Patiala, June 3

Street vendors and hawkers have encroached on roads at Adalat Bazar, causing inconvenience to shoppers.

Moreover, in the absence of the parking lots, two-wheelers and other vehicles are haphazardly parked along the roads, which also leads to traffic congestion in the market.

Though the administration earmarked a place for street vendors and hawkers to set up stalls at Chotti Baradari on Sunday, encroachments were still seen at the market.

Adding to the woes of the public, shopkeepers also showcase their products outside their shops, thereby encroaching upon the free space and leaving no room for vehicles to move.

A shopper alleged, “Shopkeepers allow street vendors to use the road in front of their shops and charge money from them as if it is the former’s personal property.”

Most of the shoppers blamed the administration for failing to remove encroachments that lead to the present congestion.

Another shopper, 26-year-old Anamika Sharma, said, “Shopping is no more a joyful experience at this market. Even pedestrians can’t move freely in this market.”

Shoppers also want more police personnel to manage traffic at the market.
