City cop Bir Singh appointed national volleyball coach

CHANDIGARH:Bir Singh of Chandigarh Police has been appointed as chief coach of Indian men’s volleyball team, which will participate in the 18th Asian Games to be held at Jakarta, Indonesia, from August 18.

Bir Singh of Chandigarh Police has been appointed as chief coach of Indian men’s volleyball team, which will participate in the 18th Asian Games to be held at Jakarta, Indonesia, from August 18. Bir Singh is currently working as in charge, sports, in Chandigarh Police. 

He has also served as chief coach of Indian teams that won silver medal in the World Championship qualifications in 2014 and Asian Youth Volleyball Championship in Kuala Lumpur in 2007. 

Indian men’s team is currently undergoing a  camp at NIS Patiala. — TNS

Ball badminton trials 

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Ball Badminton Association will conduct trials to select the boys’ and girls’ teams for the 64th Junior National Ball Badminton Championship, at IS Dev Samaj School, Sector 21, on July 21. The trials will begin at 5 pm, the sports body said here on Thursday. Players born on or after January 2, 1999, can participate in the trials, the organisers added. The Junior National Championship is scheduled to be held from August 11 in Tamil Nadu. — TNS
