Vivek High, YPS boys in Bhagwant Memorial final

Vivek High School, Mohali, beat Learning Paths School, Mohali, 29-15 to book a place in the boys’ U-14 final in the ongoing Bhagwant Singh Memorial Inter-school Basketball Championship here today.

Helped by Anshdeep, Vivek High School maintained their supremacy over Learning Paths School right from the beginning, winning the opening quarter 8-6 and extending the lead to 19-10 in the second.  

The side stayed ahead of their opponents in the next two quarters as well — 8-4 2-1 — to earn a place in the final.

Anshdeep scored 25 points for the winners. 

In the final, the side will face Yadvindra Public School (YPS), Mohali, which overcame the hosts Vivek High School, Sector 38, 18-16. 

Ebrahim (7 points) was the top scorer for Yadvindra Public School, while Vansh scored 10 points in the losing cause.  

In the girls’ U-14 category, Bilaval alone scored 20 points to help YPS, Mohali, beat Manav Mangal School, Mohali, 28-23 and earn a place in the final. Akshita and Seerat scored 10 points each for the losing side.

Earlier, in the opening match of the day Carmel Convent rode on Niliha’s 16-point effort to beat Yadvindra Public School 36-21 and ensure a place in the girls’ U-17 semifinals.  

Vivek High School, Mohali, blanked British School, Mohali, 15-0, with Guntas scoring 13 points for the winners.  

The hosts, meanwhile, humbled Sacred Heart School 29-26 to move into the last-four stage of the competition.   

Vivek High School girls won the opening quarter 8-7, but Sacred Heart led by Vaidehi Singh grabbed the lead with a 12-7 score in the second quarter. 

The hosts, though, won the last two quarters of the match 9-5 5-2 to stay in contention for the title. Prachi, 14 points, was the top scorer for Vivek High School.
