Panchkula, September 30

The Jananayak Janata Party (JJP) yesterday announced Bhag Singh Damdama as its candidate from Kalka constituency for the forthcoming Assembly elections scheduled to be held next month.

A lawyer, Bhag Singh (38) started his political career in 2003 when he was elected as a block samiti member. He has also served as the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) district president. He switched over to the JJP from the BJP before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections earlier this year. Confident of his victory in the elections, he said he was not an outsider and was aware of the issues faced by the people of the constituency.

He said he would focus on issues such as poor roads, lack of development, presence of flies due to poultry farms in Barwala, no proper education, sports facilities for students, unemployment and deteriorating law and order situation in the constituency.

Issues such as shutting down of HMT plant, improper medical facilities would be the part of his campaigning, he said. Speaking on the tenure of Latika Sharma, he said, “She has failed as a legislator in the past five years as nothing has been done as far as the development of the constituency is concerned. They (BJP) have failed to keep even a few of their promises made during the last assembly elections.” “I know issues of this constituency, unlike others who just come here to contest elections. I hail from a farming family and my motive is to develop each and every part of this constituency,” he added. — TNS
