Kirti to captain Indian netball team

Chandigarh’s Kirti will captain the Indian netball team in the Asian Championship, to be held in Singapore from September 9.
A student of Guru Gobind Singh College, Sector 26, Kirti had earlier represented the nation in the 2015 Youth Championship in Hong Kong. She has won a gold medal in the inter-university championship.
“It’s for the second time that our federation has selected me for the international championship. It has been an honour and a golden opportunity for me to shape my career ahead,” said Kirti, before leaving for Singapore on Sunday.
Her father works in Chandigarh Police, while her mother is a housewife.
“She has been playing well for the past few years. Earlier, she played basketball. She is also focusing on playing in the Federation Cup to secure her future,” said her father Panjab Singh.
The Netball Federation of India has selected Ayushi Sharma, Pallavi Kumari, Kirti, Pooja Arora, Nandini, Laxmisagar, Rajita, Ruchi, Aanchal Chauhan, Megha Chaudhary,Gurpreet Kaur, Jyoti Sharma and Nidhi Sharma to represent the country in this championship. The Indian team will compete against Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei in Group B
