Green action plan released

The Green Chandigarh Action Plan for 2017-18 was released by VP Singh Badnore, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator. A function in this regard was organised at Tagore Theatre on the occasion of World Environment Day by the Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Department of Environment & Forests and the Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee.

He also launched the public display of the air quality index at five places in Chandigarh and distributed dustbins to the general public for segregation of dry and wet waste.  

The Green Chandigarh Action Plan is a guiding tool for all  agencies of the Chandigarh Administration working to fulfill the commitment of making City Beautiful clean and green. He further said against the target of planting 2,20,000 saplings in 2016-17,  2,54,726 saplings were planted and in 2017-18, 2,35,000 saplings would be planted.

 In the afternoon, a function was organised at the entrance point of the ground floor at Elante Mall in the Industrial Area, Chandigarh. Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary-cum-Secretary (Environment & Forests), Chandigarh, was the chief guest on the occasion.  The programme was organised by Department of Environment & Forests in collaboration with the Yuvasatta, an NGO, and the State Bank of India.

On this occasion, the Best Eco-Club Award was also announced by the Department of Environment for 2016 and prizes for a commendable work in the field of environment conservation were distributed by the chief guest. 


Info on air quality at five locations in city  

The Chandigarh Pollution Control Committee has intsalled LED display boards at five locations in Chandigarh to display the air quality index (AQI)  and sensitise the general public regarding the prevailing environmental data. These have been installed at Sukhna Lake, Sector 17 (adjoining Neelam Cinema), Sector 43 ISBT, Sector 12 (near Trauma Centre, PGIMER) and the city railway station.
