Mohali: Minerva Punjab FC signed Nepal’s goalkeeper Kiran Chemjong for the current I-League season. The custodian is a graduate of the ANFA academy and started his professional career with Keltole-based Machhindra Football Club. The 27-year-old also featured for Manang Marshyangdi FC before moving to Sri Lanka to play for TC Sports Club to play in the country’s top division (Dhivehi Premier League). Chemjong was named Player of the Year at the Nepal Journalists Forum (NSJF)’s Pulsar Sports Award in 2017 for his three spot kick saves for the national side against Macau, earning the team AFC Solidarity Cup title. — TNS
Prabhjot wins silver
Chandigarh: Prabjot Singh, a student of UEI Global College, won the silver medal in the 32nd National Taekwondo Championship for Special Children at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. His brother, Harpreet Singh, defeated him in the final of the championship. Nineteen-year-old Parbjot is suffering from a speech-related disorder. — TNS

Mohali: The Chandigarh Parents Chess Association will organise 12th Republic Day Open Chess Tournament at Manav Mangal Smart School, Phase 10, Mohali, on January 26-27. The championship will be organised in the open, U-19, U-14 and U-11 categories. A total of eight rounds will be played. Chandigarh: Chandigarh Group of Colleges, Jhanjeri, won the Inter-college Volleyball Tournament for women. Jhanjeri girls defeated BCET Gurdaspur 25-21 25-16 25-14 to win the title. Earlier, Jhanjeri defeated CGC Landran 25-21 24-25 25-19 26-27 15-3 and GNE Ludhiana 25-10 25-10 25-11 in the league stage. — TNS

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Masters Athletics Association will organise masters athletics meet at the Sector 7 sports complex on January 28. The winners of their respective events will represent Chandigarh in the National Masters Athletics Championship to be held in New Delhi next month. Athletes over 35 years of age (men and women) are entitled to participate in the competition. Interested players can submit their entries with the organisers at the tournament venue. — TNS
