Dhairya registers comeback victory, sails into main draw

Chandigarh, April 7 

Dhairya Chadha returned from one set down to defeat Darshan Dilbag Singh before confirming his berth in the boys’ U-18 main draw during the ongoing CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament, at the Sector 10 complex, on Sunday. 

Chadha lost the first set 5-7, but returned with a stunning 6-3 6-1 performance to claim victory in the next two sets. Akash Srinivasan meanwhile registered an easy 6-1 6-3 victory against Aarush Sharma, while Yuvraj Pandit also easily moved further by defeating Yash Solanki 6-1 6-1. Aditya Chauhan continued his golden run as he logged a 6-4 6-3 win over Nishank Thakur, while Smarbir Singh Sidhu blanked Aarav Singh Gill 6-2 6-1. 

In a closely contested match, Harmanjot Singh struggled hard to defeat Rakshit Dhankar. Harmanjot won the first set 6-4 however Shankar bounced back in the next by logging a 5-7 verdict. 

In the final set, Harmanjot kept his calm and stunned Dhankar 6-0 to move further in the championship. Abhay Mohan won an easy outing against Lakshay Gupta 6-0 6-1, while Asav Kumar despite facing a tough resistance defeated Shubh Negi 7-5 2-6 6-2. 

In the girls’ U-18 category, Sukhmani Sahota also moved further by defeating Simar Atwal 6-1 6-0. Chahana Budhbhatti also logged an identical 6-1 6-0 win against Avneet Kaur, while Japjot Kaur was awarded walk over against Prabhleen Kaur Shekhon.  Vanya Arora meanwhile came from one set down to defeat Konika Singh Dhull 3-6 6-4 6-2, while Omisha Nischal defeated Noorpreet Kaur Siprey 6-1 6-1. Snigdha Sran was leading 3-0 against Prachi Batra before the latter conceded the match.  Harnoor Kaur Sidhu also moved further by registering an easy 6-0 6-1 victory against Yashika Sharma, while Harleen Kaur Dhanda defeated Kaavya Shankar 6-0 6-3. —TNS
